Nuclear Energy is Not What the NEI Touts It

The Nuclear Energy Institute is focused on selling the United States nuclear power plants in order to solve the human carbon footprint, trade deficits and peak oil. They are using the threat of Global warming to flow huge Federal subsidies their way. Their real motive is profit, not planetary safety. Of course there are many with mixed motives. There are those who religiously believe human progress and safety is to be gained through the application of huge, hard technologies that overcome the environment rather than working in balance with it. Their economic lives have been directed by this dominance- based belief system. Violent penetration and dominance overcomes fear of emptiness.

Remembering Al-Nakba 60 Years Later

Today, May 17, about 100 folks gathered on the West Steps of the Capitol in Denver to remember the other side of the  60th Aniversary of the Founding of Israel. They called it El Nakba or the ”The Catastrophe.”    Israel’s 1776 birthday party   was a well publicized event following on the heels of the yearly Holocaust remembrance.  Our President  paid a birthday visit to Israel making a speech that was designed to justify his belligerent foreign policy and to pretend this founding was a completely positive, just and beneficial  response to the evil visited upon the Jews by the Nazis..

Colorado Democrats in Congress --with the exception of Ed Perlmutter (CO-7)-- have done it again. They voted "Yes" to Bush's request for billions in supplemental Iraq War/Occupation Funding. I say they can't have it both ways.

Colorado Democrats?? What are they about

It is my sense of it all that the reason Colorado elected Democrats in 2004/2006 was that they had real problems with "War on Terrorism". They especially had problems with war on Iraq in the name of preventing a nuclear exchange that was based on lies, or in the name of bringing "Democracy" to Iraq, as we all were smart enough to know you don't build nations at the point of a gun. Bush/Cheney/other neocons/and the military industrial complex continued to market their --what I call an "unmitigated disaster" (if I might be permitted a Churchillian reference) --including using war on a "noun" to justify breaking laws and asserting a "unified executive/forever".

Why Bob Schaffer Is Not your Man Colorado Part 2

The outlandish statement made by Bob Schaffer concerning the Marianas being a model for how to handle a guest worker program should be enough to disqualify him. What the Marianas and their "Made in America" label should be called is "America's shameful Indentured Slavery Sponsored by Republican Representatives Schmoozed by Jack Abramoff--now a convicted Felon." I hope Schaffer enjoyed his trip to the islands but it should be reason enough to hang his head in shame and get out of this Race. It's all about Globalization, about Corporate capital avoiding paying just wages to its workers and moving jobs away from the oversight of US law.
