The Gulf--

New reports now suggest that the Gulf is experiencing an Exxon Valdez every 2-3 days -- so far that would be nearly 25.  This afternoon (June 17) it is reported that BP admits they have no clue about a shut off solution till August.  And are they so sure that will work??   Anyway that is about 30 Exxon Valdez's away.

Right now the apparent clean up includes burning thousands of barrels off the Gulf surface a day.  The carbon footprint of this oil burn must be immense.   My own feeble efforts to drive less, to use recycled Veggie Oil, to inhabit cars that get 36 to 50 Mpg's (for my whole life time:  Jetta Diesel-- 50 mpg's, Mazda 323 --36, mpg's, etc.)  are cancelled in probably less that a single day.

I used to get upset about the Blue Angel type flyovers of Bronco Games and whatever because these Jets consume so much fuel in an hour as I probably do in a year.  Of course, the US military grows demand for oil that has bought from BP on a regular basis.  You know how many gallons per mile their vehicles use?

It is tempting to say about all this -- Hey, "The Green Party told you so!"  But there is no  pleasure it being right in this case.  Our Precautionary Principle was the reason for the Regulations and Approval process for off shore wells.    But nothing can be done about the oil "bidness" and their lies,  No more than Dick Cheney's lies about Iraq.

Accountability--unless there is real accountability rules and regulations have no  force.  Kant's moral law is denied by Corporate Capitalism/Market Place regulations.  The only thing that matters there is stockholder dividends, CEO salaries and 1st quarter profits.

It will probably be the end of us unless we get a new way of governing, regulating and decisions based on 7th Generation Values.

It might be too late, but Register Green anyway.
